Turn an ordinary rectangle toffee tin into a sweet miniature bed with this simple sewing project . Perfect for small dolls or figurines, this little tin bed is a charming addition to any play or display setup. Here’s how to make it:
Materials Needed:
• Rectangle tin (e.g., toffee tin)
• Linen cotton fabric
• Wadding or pillow fluff
• Sewing machine or needle for hand sewing
• Scissors
• Pins
Instructions
1. Making the Mattress:
1. Use your tin as a size guide to cut two pieces of fabric. These will form the mattress, so make sure they fit snugly inside the tin.
2. Place the fabric pieces together with the printed sides (right sides) facing each other.
3. Sew around the edges, leaving a small opening (about 2–3 cm) so you can turn it inside out.
4. Turn the fabric inside out so the print is on the outside.
5. Stuff the mattress with wadding or pillow fluff until it is softly padded.
6. Sew the small opening closed, either by hand or with your sewing machine.
2. Making the Pillow:
1. Repeat the above steps to create a smaller pillow.
2. Ensure the pillow is the right size to complement the mattress and fit comfortably in the tin.
3. Sew with the fabric print facing each other, leave a small gap to turn it inside out, stuff it with fluff, and close the seam.
3. Making the Blanket:
1. Cut a piece of fabric that is 3/4 the length of your mattress and slightly wider to allow for a cozy blanket effect.
2. Place the fabric with the print sides facing each other and sew around the edges, leaving a small opening.
3. Turn the blanket inside out to reveal the print and create a clean finish.
4. Hand-sew or machine-sew the opening closed.
Enjoy your beautifully crafted little tin bed! It’s perfect for imaginative play or as a unique handmade gift.
Happy crafting,
